Inspiration and feedback
I observed Hofesh Shechter’s online piece of ‘Sun’(Sadler’s Wells, 2013) for inspiration as I admire how unique and recognisable his work is. He uses signature movements, for example a lot of hunched over movements are featured in his pieces. I suggested using ‘Sun’ for inspiration to my group because the piece includes small, simple movements like quickly touching parts of the face and then freezing after touching the mouth as though they were holding onto words. I believed that something like this could really work in our piece as the audience tends to pay attention to minor movements because there aren’t any distractions and if everyone in the piece does it in unison it can become something very powerful.
As a group we then worked on where and what we could do to create a similar impact, so we decided that we would stand still and zip up our mouths and use a locking motion and drop the key, the intention for this small sequence is that we are self-conscious of others hearing our thoughts so we are shutting our self-off from speaking in general.

Some feedback we have been given as a group was to study the piece and find where we can push for more intentional movement or adapt the dynamics and facial performance to deliver the theme to the audience. We applied this correct and found areas where we could place movements like trying to grab something that’s not there in reality.
