Continuation of choreography
Recently we have been working on the final section of our piece, finding different concepts and movement to portray the end of Bryan Charnley’s life. We wanted to convey a theme of surrendering and peacefulness he seemed to feel once he’d stopped taking his medication. The movement we used for this section includes high releases and leaning in to others because my character is becoming unstable and lifeless. My character in the ending is Bryan Charnley himself and the rest of the group are playing a pedestrian human role that acknowledge my characters death but continue to move on with their lives.
We originally had the idea of myself being lifted in the Christ position and walking off to represent a funeral and the grief of Bryan Charnley, however a member in the group has injured their back and was struggling to lift me, therefore we changed the ending to something more meaningful and intentional. This new choreography was the piece described in the previous paragraph.
The music we used for this section is called ‘Lights are on’ by Tom Rosenthal, it speaks about rest and silence which assists the atmosphere and feeling we want to give the audience, as well as this the song having a peaceful and calming feel to it.
